Memory Card Information:

Multi Media & Secure Digital memory cards are the new innovative small and durable data storage used for a variety of digital applications. These media cards combine the smallest form factor with high memory capacity storage (ROM and Flash), a simple high speed serial bus, a robust low cost packaging and the ability to stack up to 30 cards on a single bus. An array of digital devices as PDAs, cellular phones, digital video recorders, digital cameras and e-books support the MultiMedia and SD card format.
Multimedia & Secure Digital cards are virtually the same memory card with one subtle difference in that the Secure Digital card has a manually operated write protection switch incorporated and an extra electrical contact on the SD card, hence the name Secure Digital, which makes them interchangeable on most appliances, however only the recommended type will work on some models / appliances.
This additional switch accounts for the slight difference in price between larger storage versions of Multimedia cards & Secure Digital cards.
Capacities available : from 64Mb to 4Gb.
Even though these cards are normally used in conjunction with one another, not all devices will use both the Multi Media (MM) and Secure Digital (SD) type cards, some are specific to one type, please check your manual for details.

Compact Flash memory cards (Type I) are flash technology based with ATA interface.
These solid-state storage memory cards work with handheld devices such as Digital Cameras, PDA, Audio players.
Data transfer rate to/from host: 16.6MB/second burst
Sustained write: 1.5 Mbyte/sec maximum
Sustained read: 6.5 Mbyte/sec maximum

XD Picture Card memory cards are modern flash technology.
They were developed in a joint venture with Olympus & Fuji as a faster means of storing and transferring data for their digital cameras and camcorders. Their slight size suits camera technology in that cameras can be made much smaller and slimmer. XD Cards have a massive storage capacity in comparison to their size and are definitely the stepping stone to future generations of flash memory.
We currently stock the Olympus XD Picture Card 1Gb. What you see is what you pay, there is no added VAT.

Smart Media memory cards combine small size with simple architecture.
Shaped like a small floppy disk, Smartmedia cards measure 45 x 37 x 0.76 mm. They have the same thickness as a credit card but are one third of the size.
Capacities available: from 32 to 128MB.
Note: If you own an old digital camera (1 MegaPixels), it may work only with SmartMedia cards up to a limited capacity. In this case, please check the camera's manual or specifications on the manufacturer's web site.
